New batch of P228 (non-railed) CA approved?

I'm new to this forum, so hello to all.

I noticed on SIGforum that SIG just released a new batch of "rail-less P228s" that are P228 slides on what seems to be P229 SAS melt-job frames. A member's photo comparison clearly shows the new P228 frames are not the same as the classic P228 frames. It looks very much like P229 SAS frames with the factory melt job.

So, do these new P228s qualify as a CA-approved handgun? "P228" has been on the approved list for a long time. Just wondering if the melt job on the frame makes this a new gun for the purpose of CA approval.

        P228 (Blued) / Steel, Alloy Pistol 3.9" 9mm 3/27/2010
        P228R (Blue) / Steel, Alloy Pistol 3.9" 9mm 8/17/2010
They would appear to be legal, if they're of a black finish.

I think the issue is with the OP. He stated that Sig found some P228s in warehouse. Either he is lying or he was lied to by Sig. These are not old stock found in some back room. They are guns assembled from parts they had lying around. They clearly took a P229 SAS frame and matched them to a P228 slide. Not that there is anything necessarily wrong with that but it is what it is.

Now like I said they more than likely will be good guns. They will be on par with recent P228Rs. They are not old school P228s. Period. No amount of fanboy rationalization changes that.
That discussion on the SigForum site is 9 pages of chatter. It's a lot of reading. But the speculation is that ^^^ above in quotes from one of the members. I'm not passing judgment, just quoting the chatter.

Hey RogueSpear, I see your not the only one that has the discolor issue at the front of your 90's vintage 228.

This might be true, but I don't believe those are his Sig's

The Roster lists the Sig SAUER P228. So, unless your FFL is looking at SKU numbers I bet you're fine.
