    .45 acp pistol

    too many options

i really like the way 1911's feel and look
the glock 21 seems like a good option
    possibly a sig p220

looking at a SA mil spec, Kimber Custom II, or glock 21

whats everyone think? should i go shoot a glock first

I would say go feel all these different guns and see what feels the best and fits what you want to spend as well. Glock 21 was the first gun I ever owned and treated me well. Check out the Sig p220 and HK USP 45.

I've owned both and sold the Kimber. I prefer SA.

Get a XD 45 if you want to get a DAO striker fired gun.

Get a Kimber. If I were to pick up a Glock, it'd be a Glock Fo-tay!!!

before buying anything, you should go to a range, rent the guns you're considering and figure out which suits you the best.

if you do go with a 1911, i'd suggest a springfield loaded. great 1911 and would cost you about as much as a kimber custom II.

They are all great options. Like others have said. Go rent and shoot. For me, the Sig 220 just feels great. Also, its ok to have more than one make of 45. You know you want to.

I went with a stainless Springfield Loaded A1 and love it.
Went back and got an XD-45 for playing in the dirt.

I would say try them all out first. The kimber is totally worth the money. The g21 was my first pistol and is very accurate and reliable. It's grip kind of big for a lot of people. The glock and hk boast a higher capacity magazine, while the single stack 1911's and the sig p220 have only 7 or 8 rounds. But since you are in CA, you are restricted to 10 anyway so it's up to you

Try them all, at least once. For me, the Kimber TLE/RL made the most sense. It has both a rail and night sights, great for a home defense pistol. I also bought a Target II in 9mm.

The TLE has eaten everything I've thrown in it from day one and now has about 7.500 rounds in it. The Target II had an extractor issue when new but Kimber made it right and it now runs just fine.
