How popular is 45GAP?

I never bothered to get one, since I have about three 45 ACP pistols (1991A1 commander, Sig and G21). With standard factory loads it matches the 45ACP ballistic wise. I shoot 45ACP+P in my commander so it will out perform any GAP loads. Compact GAP capacity is 8, which is doable with my commander w/o mag extension. The only advantage I can think of with the GAP is when reloading target loads using very fast burning pistol powders. Since the case capacity is smaller it should give better burning thus decreasing velocity deviation, a plus in accuracy. But we all know accuracy is mostly in the shooter and tolerances of the pistol.

I believe the rationale for Glock's original development of the .45 GAP (Glock Automatic Pistol) was to allow a smaller trigger reach and grip circumference by using a .45 cartridge that was shorter than .45 ACP. This would appeal to shooters with smaller hands who found the Glock 21 or Glock 30 to be too large.

I don't believe the caliber has really caught on with most gun buyers. This has resulted in the ammo being a little hard to find, and probably hurts the resale value of .45 GAP guns. Glock is the main company selling guns in this caliber.

I thought about getting a 45GAP, then got a G30SF, and considering scarcity of ammo, pretty glad I did.

Seems like Glock killed their own creation. The 45GAP came out to allow a .45 caliber pistol with smaller frames.

Then a couple years later Glock comes out wth the Glock 21SF and then the 30SF.

So the reason for the 45GAP line of Glock pistols seems to have been answered by Glock itself.

I'd say that 45 GAP is probably on it's way to oblivion. Hard to find ammo and Glock being the only vendor along with low popularity.

buy GAP ammo now..its an investment for the future ..when its hard to find and prices double or triple. Then sell !!.( just a thought )

Like others have said, the 45 GAP was a solution to a problem that did not really exist. Will slowly go into balistic oblivion like the 41 Action Express and many others.

During the worse part of the ammo crunch, it was the one caliber that seemed to be available for the local gun shot to order for stocking his shelf. That has led me to conclude it must not be popular. IMO there is no need for any new cartridges to be developed. With 9, 38, 357, 45, 22 LR, 223, 308, 30 30, 30 06, 300 Win mag all of my present and future pistol and rifle needs can be met. And no, I don't have fire arms in all these calibers. In fact, even though 40's are quite popular, I'm not convinved this caliber will stand the test of time. All my opinions. Yes, there are other popular cartridges out there for rifles but I can easily do without.
