Loop?

Sorry for the elementary question, but I recently started purchasing some handguns and noticed the loop at the bottom of my Sig and Taurus as if a wrist strap was supposed to go through it. I don't see it on some 1911's. Can someone tell me what this is for?

It is what you think - a lanyard loop. Not for a wrist strap, but more like something to keep it tethered to your body/holster.

Not sure where the 1911 line was drawn on lanyard loops... if it was from A1 to A2 or certain clones just don't do it.

lanyard loops are on all the US mil adopted pistols/ 1911/ M9/ M11

on the 1911s I've seen they incortporate it into the magazine floor plate

You mean the mainspring housing? It'd be a little odd to put a lanyard loop on a part that's expected to be exchanged quickly when in use, like a magazine is.

This was during the mentality when one mag was enough.

The lanyard loop on the 1911 magazines were for use with US Calvary units.

It's so you don't lose your magazine while riding your horse.
