    CHOW 1911 Slide Holdback Issue

I have a Colt 1911 .45 customized by the late Bob Chow. Gun shoots great. On a recent range trip, I was shooting up some garbage ammo. Had a couple of failures to feed, jams, etc. mostly from garbage reloaded lead ammo. As the day went on, I noticed the slide was not holding back after the last round had been fired. It was consistent with all 3 mags I was using (Stainless McCormicks). At home, the slide holds back fine when I cycle manually.

Is there something I should look for or is it possible / probable that his is a mag issue or more likely something with the gun? The bad rounds may have been poorly sized if that makes a difference. On at least a couple instances, the slide would not close and I had to assist the slide forward to get it into battery.

Any advice or info appreciated. Thank you.

Sounds like junk/weak reloaded ammo---try with factory ammo---good luck.

This might be your problem. Repeat with factory fresh known good ammo.

        1. Ammo issues - you noted this in your post.

        2. Hand position? could you have been depressing the slide stop or interfering with it's movement while shooting?

If the piece locks open manually with the mags you were using at the range, there probably gtg.
