One of the guys I work with owns a Ruger P94 and he wants to pull the slide apart, he came up and asked me how to do it the other day and I have never owned a Ruger handgun so I know nothing about breaking them down. I searched for some info and the only thing I could find was field striping a P97 on THR. But I would prefer to email him either a video or info on a P94 so that way he knows what he is doing is correct. Thanks in advance for any help.

The field strip most Ruger (hammer fired) pistols.
1. Lock back the slide and confirm visually and tactile that it is EMPTY.
2. Reach in through the ejection port and push down the ejector.
3. Slowly release the slide and allow it to run forward until the takedown witness marks are aligned.
4. Holding the slide aligned with the witness marks, pull the slide-stop out.
5. Allow the slide to go fully forward and pull of the frame.Luck favors the prepared.

Ask here. http://www.rugerforum.com/phpBB/ Also if his gun is a decocker without the safety the info for a p97 should be fine. MarkComment

Hi there,
I've got a P94 9mm myself and its a great gun. That being said, he should read through the manual which can be found here:
If he doesn't have the manual safety model, he can pick a different manual here:
Hope that helps!
Oh, buffy has it right for breaking the gun down, but I don't know that you can break the slide down further... at least I have never done it.Last edited by Capt Jack; 10-22-2009, 6:37 PM.Comment

IIRC you first remove the rear sight set screw. Slide the sight out of the dovetail that exposes the firing pin block so the pin will come out after the next step, yes you lose your sight zero so decide if you want to clean the slide that bad. The extractor holds the levers for decock/safety in. Push the extractor towards the outside and pull forward on the hook it will take some force but will come out. The tail of the extractor is holding the levers in now you can pull the levers out and the rest come apart. Good luck.
