I picked it up out of the consignment rack at my local favorite shop. I've never messed with a 1911 before so I don't have the faintest idea what I want to build out of it. It'll probably be months and months before she's done. I've got to order some books, do some research, spend a bunch of time on here, save up enough money for the rest of the parts, sit down and learn more about it and build the thing...Pictures will come at that point! Seems harder, but more rewarding, than the bunches of AR's I've built... Wish me luck, and any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I would suggest you get a couple of books and videos:

The second link is the companion video to the original Kuhnhausen book, which is a must-read. You will need to invest in some 1911-specific tools and take your time.

If you can, I would suggest picking up a beater 1911, and learning how to take that thing down to its last bit and put it together before you build your own. There is a LOT of work in building a 1911 from the ground up. Your research will be greatly benefited by having a beater to play with. There are tons more books and videos, AGI is a great resource, but there are others.

If you don't mind one piece of advice; get yourself a sear jig, when it comes time to fit those parts, you will find that either you fire control will work, won't work, or you'll have a machine gun, which is illegal. Be careful and have fun!
