686+ vs 627(update: Bought one!)

Out of curiosity, what does the PC version off that the regular one doesn't have other than that wacky looking barrel?

I love my 627PC. It's an amazing piece of tool. I actually prefer the 5" barrel because it balances much better in my hand. I have not problem hitting the man-size steel target at 100 yards (7 out of 8 times). Just get it and you'll love it!

Forged hammer and trigger (rather than MIM -- nothing wrong with MIM except you can't 'smith on it...); the 5" barrel length; recessed crown; unfluted cylinder on some models.

ETA - also manufactured on Perf Ctr equipment -- they change tooling out more often resulting in guns with tighter tolerances.

I stopped by the local shop today and put a deposit down on a 627 Pro Series.
Not sure if the Pro was the way to go, but it's what they had and I didn't feel like waiting to order a standard model or pay the premium for the PC model(which is a 5" and I wanted a 4" anyway). The Pro Series has the goofy looking barrel, but it's already grown on me. It'll be something different in my collection that all kinda looks the same.

It seems to have the MIM trigger and hammer. They are the same color as the ones pictured below. Mine is ribbed trigger as opposed to smooth one pictured. I would have preferred the smooth one. Is it a huge ordeal to swap out the trigger? I'm not a gun smith by any stretch, but I have opened up other S&W's to switch springs before. Never thought about trying to take the trigger itself out before however.

I plan on using this as my go-to, use all the time, shoot whatever ammo I have available gun. I assume from the posts above that it's up to the task of shooting everything from the lightest .38s to the heaviest .357s.

I'm going back tomorrow to pay it off and start the DROS. I'll get it out of jail just in time for my vacation to start!!

Nice choice, later on, if you wish you can change to chrome trigger-hammer like 627PC. But my idea not necessarily because the trigger is about 4 lbs SA, good enough.

The only reason I would even think about swapping the trigger is not to alter the pull any, but the actual trigger face. I don't really dig the serrated trigger itself. Being MIM, I don't know if those can be smoothed out at all.

By the way, the specs on the Pro Series says that it has a "Bossed Mainspring". What does that mean? Is that like Wolf springs that have a rib on the back?
