Kimber Eclipse Target II full size

    Hello all,

Got a relative's new Eclipse Target II to work on a few things. The rear adjustable Bomar style sight is not sitting in the middle but off to one side form the factory so I was going to drift it to the center.

My question is, is the kimber adjustable rear sight elevation screw screwed into the dovetail like some low mount Bomars? The sight is tall (or fat) enough where I don't think so, plus if the screw is screwed into slide dovetail, it would be impossible to drift the sight away from the screw hole and still be able to reinstall the elevation screw.

Your insight is much appreciated. Thanks

my relative said she was shooting left but couldn't figure out why. I know it is inconceivable but she did not know the sight blade could be adjusted for windage. I thought the sight blade may have been moved too much to one side from the factory, but the sight is actually off to one side in the dovetail with the sight blade squared in the sight. So the adjustment needs to be made on the sight itself... And if the elevation screw screws into a threaded hole in the dovetail/slide itself, then I have a bigger problem because that would mean the threaded hole is off; I really don't think this is the case, and I may just back out the screw to verify.

I've heard a lot of bad things about Kimbers quality lately, so who knows. On the other hand, perhaps they dropped it and are embarrassed to say anything?

I've owned two Kimbers, one series I and one series II, both the basic Stainless Full size, both tight and accurate guns.

This Eclipse's finish is better than a friend's Eclipse from two years ago, is a tighter gun by far (almost too tight), and harder to tell that some parts are MIM. Maybe this one slipped past QC, but it would be hard to notice by anyone since the slide is black and the sight is black. I noticed it because of the first range trip experience and I was looking for the problem.

All in all, this gun is reminding me my positive experience when I picked up my first handgun (the series I Kimber) 11 years ago, not the sight part, but the quality of construction.
