tac light

i want a tac light for a glock 22 and have a few choices.

streamlight m3, m3x, and tlr-1

surefire x200, or x300

or a glock safe action tac light

i do not have any knowledge about the tac lights, so i wanted some opinions. what is the best light(personal opinion, considering lumens bat life...)?

price is not an object

I'm partial to Surefires and have many weapons lights from them back when they were the only game in town. Nowadays, there are alternatives for more reasonable prices. The Insight M3x is a very good light and would be much better if they came out with an LED version. The Streamlight TLR-1 is my current favorite; it's an LED light that is comparable in performance to the Surefire X300 for half the price. Has a good rocker switch for both momentary and constant on operation. There is also an option for the remote momentary pressure switch backplate.

thanks for the input, but is there a noticable difference between the brightness of the TLR 1 and the other one? there is about a 40 lumen difference

You can never really fully trust or compare manufacturers ratings; they have slightly different methods of evaluating the brightness of their hardware. I'll tell you this much; look directly into a narrowly focused beam like the ones mentioned and you could blind yourself; that's how bright they are. You can't go wrong with any of the 6V LED models boasting over 100 lumens.

Get a Surefire. Not because of the light itself, but because you can buy add-on grip switches such as the DG-11, etc., that allow you to operate the light much, much more effectively.

X300, very bright and built like a tank. Surefire makes a pressure switch, with an activation pad that sits on the grip, just below the trigger guard. Highly recommended.

I have been incredibly pleased with the Streamlight TLR-1 and would recommend it for attachment to pretty much any gun.

At the same time, i am disappointed with my TLR-3. The switch isn't as nice.

on a more serious note, i love my streamlight m3. since i sold my glock, the m3 sits on my ar quad rail, and it seems like it was meant to be there. i think the design was sold to 'insight,' so i dont know about the new ones. but the streamlight is rad. ive had it for about 5 years, and it's been flawless.

i just picked up the surefire x400 with the dg11 switch. HIGHLY recommend it. Its amazing! Well worth the money.

You cannot beat the TLR-1 when it comes to price (the C4 LED of course)....

There is not a big enough difference between any of the Surefire models to justify the leap in cost.

True, but the leap in cost is well worth the ability to add remote switches...
