Sig P220 Trigger Pull

Hello wise senior members-

Recently purchased a new Sig P220. Very impressed with overall craftsmanship, however only complaint is with the trigger.

When firing DA, there is substantial "give" in the trigger pull before any resistance is felt and the hammer moves. Likewise, with SA pull, there is a smaller but still noticeable amount of "give" before the hammer falls. Obviously the trigger pull on a DA/SA pistol will never be as crisp as a 1911, but I wasn't expecting it to be so loose.

Any suggestions?
Will a gunsmith be able to fix this, or is it worth the hassle?

My suggestion is to shoot it. It will smooth out over time and then you'll either love it or hate it. I almost sent my first SIG to be worked over by GGI but the more I shot my 226 the more I came to love that DA pull.

Unfortunately there is really nothing much you can do about the "GIVE IN" with P- series Sig because that was how the gun trigger system was design. Buddy of mine purchased a $105 SRT and when we installed in his P220 I personally did not felt much of a difference. Just like you said if you prefer very short trigger reset stick to 1911 or Glock.

Do you have a P220 or P220r? That will help diagnose things, as the modern 220's have a very nice trigger whereas the older 220's are heavy. Personally, having dealt with the SRT trigger, it's kind of a love/hate thing. The short reset is nice, but it breaks further back toward your palm than the standard trigger. If I was into SIG still, I'm not sure I'd want the SRT. It does NOT effect pull weight, just reset point and break point.

I have the Srt on both my p239 and my p226r and it eliminates the take up during SA firing and makes the reset much much shorter. I'd never get another sig without the SRT

I just had the SRT and the trigger job (Action Enhancement Package) done by SIG. They lightened the trigger pull and smoothed it out, it especially makes a big positive difference in double action. I think it was well worth it.

Regarding the slack in the trigger, I don't think it changed that much. There still is a noticeable amount of slack. It's like a two stage trigger, initially you pull with very little resistance, then it gets to a zone with firm resistance. In the firm resistance zone it breaks very cleanly. If that's what you mean, it doesn't really bother me, I don't see what the problem is.

It sounds like you are accustomed to the short, crisp trigger pull of a 1911 and have just bought your first Sig. I have both 1911s and DA/SA Sigs, and I agree that there is a big difference in feel, especially comparing the DA Sig pull to the SA 1911 pull.

I would suggest practicing with your Sig until the feel of the trigger becomes more "normal" to you. I have noticed that I can shoot my Sigs as accurately as my 1911s, and I believe it is results on the target that count, instead of the subjective "feel" of the trigger. The Sig trigger works very well, and is just different than a 1911.

Because you send the frame how to you ship it? Do I take it to Fedex or USPS and tell them Im shipping a firearm?

Ive had AR triggers done by Bill Springfield and I have nothing but praises.
