    Need help

I am not around for a while.

Now I see a Mac-10, 45acp, but not manufactor by Ingram or Cobray. Can anyone tell me if it is legal to buy it from out of state? I have not bought any handgun for ten years!

    Any information appreciated.

    Looks like an "assault weapon"

The first problem is that you can't bring a handgun in from out of state without using a local CA FFL to transfer it to you, and they will only transfer guns on the approved handgun list, which this is not. So there is no way to get it into the state.

The second problem is that it looks like an assault weapon, what with the threaded barrel, folding stock, detachable magazine, etc. So you can't buy or sell it in CA. I presume the gun looks like the picture below?

Your picture is of the submachine gun. I think the original poster is asking about the pistol, which doesn't have a shoulder stock.
If the pistol in question is an earlier version with a threaded barrel, it's not CA OK. If it doesn't have a threaded barrel, you're OK. The only problem is finding a dealer who knows the laws and will transfer it for you.

If you know of a CA FFL dealer who will accept a handgun shipment from out of state, when the handgun is not on the approved list, and then transfer it to a CA buyer, please let us know his name. He will receive a great deal of business, I believe.

He'll also receive alot of prison time. Once when I was looking for my Smith and Wesson 39-2, I called alot of dealers to see it they had any for consighnment sale. One of the dealers I spoke to told me that since the 39-2 was manufactured before the drop test was enacted, that the older gun was exempt from the testing, and that he could bring one in for me. What he failed to realize was that CA bans importation of "unlisted" handguns begining on the date that the drop test began, and has no bearing on when the gun was actually manufactured. CA DOJ confirmed this via email. Exemptions for SA and Olympic pistols aside.

Rumor around the local gunshop is that someone making the MAC10 (copy?) will submit it to CA for drop tests. Of course no threaded barrel, standard cap mag, or barrel shroud.

It is not legal to purchase the MAC-10 clone from out of state. The only possible way to get something like this is if there is a non-AW version already in the state and the person that owned it was willing to PPT it to you, much like how you can obtain a Cobray M11 via PPT.

              Thanks for all the replies.

I think if we can collect enough potential buyers name for a Mac 10 or Mac 11, we may persuade Atlantic arms to submit the Mac 10 for the drop test.
