It occurred to me the other day that I should get some frangible ammo. Was looking at the Extreme Shock Air Freedom, http://www.extremeshockusa.com/cgist...48&cart_id=134

and these,

thinking of loading the mags with these and topping off with the air freedom rounds.

Anyone have any experience with these? or a similar product someone can recommend.

The Extreme Shock ammo will penetrate drywall. They are also expensive "frangible" round that will not fragment reliably and are considered the joke of the ammo brands (they photoshoped a white guy into a black guy in their ads)

There is no self defense ammunition out there that will not penetrate drywall and only penetrate human tissue. Stick with proven brands of JHP if you want rounds for self defense. The only way to not penetrate drywall is to hit what you are shooting at.

Get a good quality JHP, and use the same ammo the entire magazine.

Don't stagger the rounds, and don't mix and match ammo. Aside from different points of aim associated with the different types of ammo (slight variation), you then have the defense attorney for Mr. Badguy claiming that you're some nutball who wanted to shoot people, like his innocent client, as proved by your exotic and odd mix of ammunition.

The likelyhood of that issue coming up? Slim. Is it a possibility? Sure. Use good defensive ammunition, practice with it, and aim COM. Even frangible ammo will go through walls.

frangible ammo is designed to fragment into a million pieces when it hits something significantly harder than itself. Like steel plates. They use it in training style shoot houses because they can shoot targets up close without worrying about large chunks of bullet reflecting back at them.

It's not designed to fragment up inside a bad guy, or drywall, or anything. In fact, in most normal settings, it would probably act no differently than a full metal jacket round.

Use good quality Jacketed Hollow point ammunition in a caliber reasonable for what you are preparing for, and stop worrying about overpenetration.

If you aren't shooting people in apartment buildings with .308 or .375H&H, you are probably good.

If you nightstand gun isn't an S&W 500 Mag - I don't think you will have to worry.

Frangible ammo is snakeoil - there is no such thing as a magic bullet.

Stick with proven JHP designs, they are proven effective, and they are considerably less expensive (you do practice regularly with your SD ammo, right?)

While the office might be a bit "suspect" to keep a shotgun, a home in another thing. I have ran thru a number of scenarios and although I am in a single family home, the homes are dense. In some cases, only the outer wall or a window separate the interior from the exterior. As a result, I keep my 1100 close. Handloaded #2's will do the job and the chances of going thru drywall, insulation and exterior drywall/stucco is unlikely. Just my 2 cents.

Stick with HP ammo, save the guessing for the game shows.
If you need to drop some random bad guy you need to stick with a proven design.

Custom Cartridge (local folks) make a great frangible round. Expensive, but top-notch quality and they are very friendly folks to deal with!
