    Rust?

Is this Rust on my slide? I cant seem to get rid of it. I also cant imagine how this happened. Its in a safe and only out for cleaning and shooting a couple times a month.

Doesn't look like rust from the picture. Is it reddish?

Looks like copper from the ammo.

Looks to me like kisses from the ejected brass. Rub hard w/ Hoppe's #9 and a clean cloth. If it's brass, it'll clean up.

The copper bits go out the barrel.

Might be brass marks from the expended casings.

+1 on brass marks. brass marks can be a pain to remove. at least for me, i can get rust off easier than some brass marks. the brass deflector on my ar is forever gold, it seems...

I get that too on my SA 1911 GI. It is indeed from the brass ejecting out of the gun.

actually no. or I should say not yet as I didnt try very hard. Just rubbed it with a rag briefly with some hoppe's 9. i does seem like its kinda stubborn. Might need to really get in there with some solvent.
