    Microstamping question

Hey so this is probably an obvious question, but this will just be for future handguns in california that are not already on the roster correct? So if I want to get a usp or 226 or something next year it wont have it right? thanks

microstamping will only be required on new handgun designs in order to be rostered. Any existing rostered handguns will be able to be continued to be sold in CA without having microstamping involved.

However, the microstamping law is on hold indefinitely due to patent restrictions on the technology used to microstamp. The NRA had that "poison pill" inserted to keep microstamping at bay for many years.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Correct, no manufacturer (that I'm aware of) is about to produce any firearm with microstamping capabilities. Due to what I understand was a last minute change in the bill, before it became law, the state cannot require manufacturers to use the microstamping technology unless it is free of limitations/restrictions from patents. It will be several years before that happens.

Also, I was under the impression that it wasn't even possible yet (defacto gun ban theory). I know they can accomplish the head stamp, but that the side/case-wall stamp technology didn't exist(yet). I'm not trying to spread FUD, but I admit I am uncertain. My point is moot, I know, but thought I would mention it anyway.
