So I took my new 1911 9mm down to Jackson Arms twice recently for some range work. I shot ~200 of WWB rounds each time, and in that total 400 rounds fired I experienced one failure to eject - otherwise operation of the gun is nominal.
The gun has fixed Novak sights, and at 25 yards I had a couple of 5" 5-shot groups (shooting from a weaver stance). Accuracy at closer distances was predictably better.
The only wierd thing I experienced during both trips is that occasionally (maybe 4 or 5 times), usually the 3rd round out of the magazine, the gun ejected the casing right over the gun into my face....bounced right off my glasses. That surprised me ...*PLONK*...
The gun is a lot of fun to shoot -- I'm used to shooting .45ACPs, .357s, .44s...and so comparatively the recoil of the 9mm in an all-steel 1911 gun is pleasant -- feels like you could just shoot all day long.
My only quibbles are that the 2 magazines seem to have different spring strengths -- doesn't appear to impact the function, just a qualitative observation on my part. And, there is a hellacious ugly hand-dremeled 3-digit fractional serial number on the inside/bottom of the slide. For all the effort SA goes through to dehorn these guns....WTF? My older SA doesn't have this mark. Also, while the slide-to-frame fit is very tight, the slide (on the left rear of the gun) overhangs the frame by just smidge. Odd, but again, doesn't affect the function of the gun. Cosmetically it bugs me that an ~$800 gun would have fit n finish issues like this. But, I buy guns to SHOOT them, so I don't worry too much about cosmetic stuff.
So - upshot is, as a 1911 fan, I'd heartily recommend this gun. I really prefer fixed sights, and this is the only 9mm 1911 that has 'em. And as I've said, I bought the 9mm so I could have something less expensive to shoot more often than my .45 or .357 or 44. And for that, this gun fits the bill like a dream.
