Way back, Skeeter Skelton ran a 10K + torture test of a LW Commander without appreciable wear to anything other than consumables.

I'd think that if you changed out the recoil spring every 1500-2000 rounds and do the normal PM, that would be about all you'd need to do.

I assume you mean the frame. It may wear out on your grandkids, but you shouldn't have a problem if you maintain properly (changing springs, etc.). I have two that were made in 1951 and they're still going strong...

Have a series 70 from way back(short trigger era). About 900 rds a year since then(1979). Lots of TLC and springs, no +p. Still runs great!

I cracked two LW Commander frames back in the 1970's. One lasted around 12,000 rds, the other around 10,000 rds. Both cracked right at the juncture of the dust cover and the frame. I was feeding them a steady diet of pretty hot loads (7.7gr Unique with a Speer 200gr JHP, IIRC) though.
