    Sig sauer Magazine compatibility....

Hello, I have a few questions that I cannot find on calguns, and also on google. I found some things on google, but just wondering if there are people on here who know first hand.

First is, I have a bunch of P226 and P229 mags(pre-ban high caps, .40 and 9mm) in my storage unit that I have to dig up. What are the compatibilities between the 9mm sig mag family? After searching i have found that the P226 mags work in the P229 and possibly in the P228, but I only have a P226R and I got rid of my P229 to double check fitment. Does anyone know for sure? Another thing, If I have .40 cal P226 mags, would they work and function properly in a 9mm P226? (havent been able to dig up all my mags, so that is why im asking) What else would the P226 or even the P229 interchange in as far as sigs(do they work in different caliber guns like .40 or .357?)?? Also, my buddy gave me some barreta high caps back before the bam (somewhere in storage also), and they were modified to fit the P226. i have never used them in my P226 as I had a ton of regular sig mags. Does anyone have any info on this particular mag mod if it works fine in the P226? i think it was a few mods, one was relocating the mag slot on the magazine so they would stay in the mag housing. Im just curious as I have these mags somewhere, but didnt really think of them much back then, and now Im curious about them. Thanks!

    Hi
The 228 mag is just a shorter version of the 228/229 magazine. So the longer mag (226) fits and functions fine in the shorter grip frame pistols.
I've never heard if converting Beretta 92 mags to function in Sig Sauers would work. But they do slide into each other's pistol grip.
Good job having the presence of mind to stock up.

      hi kavemsn
no need to eliminate the beretta slot as the sig slot sits higher up the mag body. also,
the 40 and 357 mags can feed 9mm but not vise versa

An article in combat arms (dec 2009) issue "the little pistol that could" by john m buol jr. states that "In a pinch, Beretta M9 magazines can be modified to fit the M11."

I do have the beretta mags, but I havent tried them yet. Im going to go search for that article after this. Is there much detail about feed and function of them?? My buddy gave them to me a long time ago, I should of listened to exactly what he was saying. Didnt really think much of it, just thanked him for the mags and gave him a bunch of match ammo and a gift card to footlocker if I remember correctly. Are there any discrepencies in the laws about using a modified pre-ban high cap from another firearm? I dont think i ever read anything about that in any penal code. Thanks for all the info to all the posters on here, much appreciated!

I have a 228, and in my experience a 229 .40/.357 will NOT fit into my 9mm.... the mag body pushes out 1mm or so on each side. 9mm 229 and 9mm 228 are identical..... I'm not sure if this is also the case with 226. I'm assuming you probably could use a 9mm mag in a .357/40 229 but you would have to modify the feedlips.... which is very gray area if you ask me

                Good luck!

Would it be possible for someone to email me a copy of this artical, we have some troops here in Sharana, Afghanistan that need M11 Mags and this would help till they come in. I had the magazine, but I must have lent it to another. Thanks.

                    Hello,
Yes the 92FS mags will work in a Sig 226, That said they will need to be modified. The slot for the mag catch will need to be cut higher on them to accommodate the higher catch on the sig.. The feed lips are a little different on them but they will function.

Just cut a new notch with a hack saw and file it a bit until the magazine catch will engage properly. Line up the new notch with one of your 226 mags. Those 92FS mags will be a great addition to your high cap stockpile.

Update. I have found the Baretta mags that have been modified for the P226 and they fit and function fine. After firing about 200 rounds through them, the slide did not lock back for maybe 3-4 rounds. Most of the time the slide did lock back after the rounds were spent.

So yes, Baretta mags do work with very little modifications. I did not touch the feed lips, I dont know if my buddy did, but they look to be oem.

the 229 357/.40 mag bodies are wider as are the magwells in the 229 357/.40 frames.

the 9mm 229 is really just a 228 with a rail and a milled slide, the mags are interchangeable
