Next is similar to the pair pictured, but instead of the checkering ending in a straight line along the top edge and below the medallions, the checkering pattern goes up to the medallion with a semi circle edge outlining the lower half of the medallion and to about the halfway mark on either side. These would be an example:

I believe these were used until about 1974/75. Last is the current style.

So I believe the grips pictured would not be correct for a 1969 issue Python, the 2nd version (semi circle top checkering) would be correct.
You may be correct but the auction you reference doesn't prove anything,
in 40 years those grips could have been changed by anyone. Pete

You're right and I know they could be changed, that's not why I showed the auction. I showed the grips to illustrate what should be on a 1969 made gun rather than rely on description alone.

Here's some info regarding Python grips and fakes:

            Yes, you almost did.

            I don't have a 1969 - wish I did. But my 66 & 68 have the checkering half circled around the medallion.

It may take a few months to fine the correct grips. Hang in there.

PM me if you want to sell the 69.

The third set of grips shown on the colt forum for 60's up to 70 is only one of two variants.
A second variant is thumb rest on both sides. Medallion is half circled just the same.
