    Thicker grips for my 1911

Can anybody suggest thicker grips for a Kimber Custom II (5" model) ? I have a Sig P220 and it just feels "right" in my big mitts, and would look something that feels similar on the Kimber; it's now wearing the factory grips.

    Thanks in advance.

The Hogue wrap-arounds should make it somehow thicker overall. Hogue also has regular grips with palm swells that might do the trick.

Correct - there are lot's of guys making thin 1911 grips, but I don't know of anybody making thicker grips.

I have seen individual examples of stag grips for 1911's that are thicker tham normal, but it's more of a luck of the draw thing.

Wow, thats a first! I've never heard of anyone wanting THICKER grips on a 1911. Everyone seems to have a more natural point of aim with slimmer grips. That's why they are probably hard to find.

But I guess its your preference....the Hogue wrap arounds will do good. If you want it to look more sleek, you can also get the rubber wrap around grips with the finger swells and just cut the finger swell part off and still have the rubber pieces to put under the grip panel. Or maybe the Stag grips or fake ivory grips look pretty thick.

You should have gotten a Para P-14 or any other double stack 1911. They may advertise its the same grip size but they do feel like a brick in your most peoples hands.

Wooden wrap around grips should fit your purpose.

What if you went to an arched mainspring housing?

Much appreciated, gents. I hadn't considered an arched mainspring housing, and the Pearce inserts and Hogue look interesting as well. Thanks again !

Pachmayr makes one with "thumb swells", which increase thickness, model 02919.
