Just like the question asked. Given proper maintenance and lubrication, how long will the more common pistols last? I am thinking along the lines of the 1911s, Sig 220 and 230 series and such. Obviously its not a chronological figure but round count. There is a beautiful Sig 226 on the sale section with a lot of Bruce Gray work done and 5000 rds. It has a lot to go, but when will the barrel and other parts need replaced?

SIG is the only handgun used by the Swedish Police and most of them are 226s and 228s.
After a couple of injury accidents the official maximum round count for their Aluminum frame guns is 10000.
Officers expected to shoot a lot (instructors, SWAT etc) are now issued steel frame versions instead. With Oden on our side.Comment

I have over 250,000 rounds on my Safari Arms 1911 and it's got it's third barrel on it and second slide. It has it's second disconnector and thumb safety and it's third set of hammer and sears.Frank

My SV open gun has over 50,000 of major power factor ammo and is as good as the day it was built, the only parts replaced was the recoil springs and thumb safeties which I broke. A friend buys bullets from a guy who has 400,000 lead bullets through his STI 40. A have a couple of Glocks that have over 10,000 and they are like new. I shoot with a guy who has a Springfield 1911 he bought in the 60's and has shot countless thousands of rounds and it run's 100% I have a Winchester 1897 shotgun built in 1899, almost no bluing and God know how many rounds fired over 100+ years and it works fine.
Cleaning and proper lubrication will make them last longer than you would think. Very few guns will be worn out from shooting because most people don't put that many rounds through them.Last edited by TMC; 01-15-2007, 2:26 PM.where are my pistol mags?Comment

better pieces these days seem to be able to run 100,000 rounds with mainly spring maintenance. maybe a firing pin too.
the ammo cost is 85% of the equation if you are counting ammo in quantities of 50k. If the gun pukes at 85k rounds, just buy another one and use the first for small parts.Comment
