Looking to buy Springfield xd 45

I shot a service model xd 45 at the range last Friday and loved it! Been to 4 gun shops in the Orange County area and nobody has these in stock . Anybody know where I can get one in the Orange County area (or a nearby county)?

Have a shop special order it for you. How about http://www.hewittsmith.com/ in Colton, CA? You can call him and get a quote within a few days once he finds one. That or buy it online and have it transferred in.

Good luck! .45s of any brand are really hard to find these days, and so is the ammo. I picked up my XD .45 last December and haven't seen one on a shelf since! I have seen plenty of XD .40s though; you may consider this model instead, as it is easy to find and so is the ammo.

In terms of external ballistics, most .40 ammo flies flatter and most .40 ammo has more kinetic energy. BUT some of the .45 +P ammo with 185 grain bullets still keeps the energy edge over any .40 I've seen. Can't comment on terminal ballistics between the two though.

From what I've read on lighter faster 45's, the 230 performs much better. Light weight 45's seem to lack penetration performance. Not sure why? Maybe it's the drag of a fat bullet going through that overcomes it's light weight?

Its about an hour drive from where your at, but Iron Sights Shooting range had a couple Xd-45s last time I was in there a few weeks ago.

What were the 4 places you checked out? I'm pretty sure Evans off the 57 had a few in stock. Possibly On-Target in Laguna Niguel.

I saw one in Faith Armory in Temecula http://www.faitharmory.com/site/ about a week ago for $540. Might want to give them a call and see if they still have it. They just opened this year, but they are an awesome store with great prices and friendly employees.

+1 on Faith Armory, Nate is pro Calguns and before the Forest Service rules came into play, he was going to donate some ammo for the raffle we intended to have at the Lytle Creek shoot.

That said, I don't know if they are sold already, but there were a couple of XD45 for sale in the forum here. I don't recall if they were the Service (4") or the Tactical (5").

You can do a fast search by going to the Announcement Forum and checking out oaklander's excellent search function link.

I've been to Fowlers Gun Shop, The Stockade, Turners in Fountain Valley and Orange, Ade's and was at On-Target last Friday. That's where I tried one out. This will be my first automatic and figure I might as well go big if I'm limited to 10 rds. Thanks for the advice, will check them out.
