Which Handgun Shall I get?

I own a couple of rifles now, and since I'm turning 21 real soon, I have decided to get a handgun. Now my budget is about 500-600 dollars. I prefer a 1911, but being left handed, I want a 1911 that has an ambi safety on it which increases the cost to be a bit more than 600 dollars. I have also been thinking about getting a Glock 19 as well. The Glock 19 would fit my budget better and I shoot well with it at the range, but I somewhat dislike feeling of the grip. I think a hogue slip-on grip might solve that (haven't felt a hogue grip on a Glock.) Lastly a used Sig 228 that Turner's was selling for 500 dollars would work as well, but I don't think they have anymore of those.

So basically I'm looking at:
-RIA Tactical 1911
-Glock 19
-Used Sig 228

What do you guys think?

Any more suggestions within the 600 dollar price range?

Decide on the caliber first and then choose a handgun in that caliber. Your best bet would be to go to a range and rent a variety of guns and shoot them. Whichever you shoot the best should be your first choice. If you don't like the G19 grip, an excellent alternative is the Springfield XD9.

I own a Glock 19, and I love it. It was a toss up between the P228 though because I love sigs as well.

If I were buying my first gun again, after knowing what I know not and owning just about everything on the market, I would buy a Sig 226 in 40... 1911's are awesome too but the weight/price to capacity ratio is low... Glocks feel like toy guns to me (although mine runs like a champ). The Sig is the best of them all. Capacity, reliability and touch/feel/looks/coolness factor is off the charts.

I'd go with the Glock 19. Ammo is cheaper, you can practice more to build your shooting skills.

I shot a springfield GI 1911 the other day. It was my frist time shooting a low end 1911. Holy mackarole, what a piece of junk. I always thought 1911s sucked, and I've only shot various Kimbers. I always thought I might get a lower end, stock 1911 just for collectors sake. Not any more... garbage.

2011 > HK > glock > sig > any other 9mm > 1911

So based on your list I would go with the glock. I only downgrade the Sig because of all the QC and CS complaints that have come up lately.

OP: What do you have ammo for right now?

I don't have much in the way of handgun ammo since I'm not 21 yet. Though 9mm will be more economic to shoot and practice with. I have a lot of .22lr but my friend is about to get a .22lr handgun so I'd prefer to get a centerfire handgun.

I have shot many Glocks and Sigs, and 1911s, but have never shot a RIA Tactical 1911. Anyone want to report on the quality of those 1911s?

Also, does anyone know if there is a warranty on the RIA Tactical 1911s?

My first semi-auto centerfire was a CZ-75B SA 9mm, prefer it over any Sig/Glock/Springfield/Ruger that I've shot. Ergonomics and accuracy are excellent.

They are the lowest quality available. Might want to look at a good sling shot.
