Should I buy a used Kimber Ultra Carry

A friend of mine is looking to offload one. He wants 400 bucks for it, but here's the deal. When he bought it he used a magazine without a base plate which caused the magazine to seat too deeply in the frame. This caused the ejector to get knocked off upon firing. Trying to fix it (aluminum frame, steel ejector), he screwed up the frame just enough to not get the ejector pin to fit. Now he has the ejector epoxied in. It shoots and extracts fine from what I've seen (about 100 or so rounds, many rapid), but seems a little sketchy. Do you think Kimber would fix this if I bought it?

    What do you think?

I wouldn't buy it. I used to own one but sold it because that 3" 1911- I could never get it to be as reliable as my Commander or full sized 1911s.

Offer 300 and send it to Kimber for a real fix.

If you are going to use it specifically for plinking, weekend fun, or personal project gun, then it would be worth it.

Something to trust your life with, CCW carry, or nightstand, I'd WAY PASS on a used blown up Kimber. I'd already have quite a few reservations resorting to a used firearm to protect my life with, but to also hear how much internal failures there are, forget about it.

Not the biggest fan of cast 1911s but I'd rather spend five something on a brand new cast 1911 thats dependable, rather than looking sexy or two-tone. Trust me...and also Kimber doesn't offer warranties on any of their work. So even if they replace everything and fix it, if it blows up again, ur back to square ONE paying for another fix. Not worth it.

So I checked it out today and the ejector has the pin fitted inside and seems very tight with the addition of the epoxy. Everything else on the gun is tight. It has 700 rounds through it. I was there for 100-200 rounds of it and it performed flawlessly.

I have a SA 1911 mil-spec for HD, but if I ever carried, I'd probably bring the UC if I buy it. As long as it performs up to standards of course.

I'd call Kimber or a gunsmith you trust and find out how much you are looking at to properly repair it.

I also agree with cmonk. It's probably fine if you just want to take it to the range. For a carry piece or for self defense, I'd get it fixed, and put a couple hundred rounds before I trusted my life to it.

For $400, I'd take it in a heatbeat! Hell, I'll make you an offer, if you buy it and decide that you don't like it, I'll give you $400 if you drive to the northern end of LA county for a PPT. Now, if you buy it and hack it up any worse than it is, we'll have to talk about it. Otherwise, like I said, you have a standing offer for $400 for it.

Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.

Seriously, I'll take it sight unseen for $400 if it is exactly like the OP described it. Anyone would be a complete moron not to!

Buy it! Anything can be fixed! A gun is just a few pieces of metal, it's BS to say you wouldn't trust your carry piece to be a "used" gun. All my guns are "used" some are very well used. Now I know they all work, because I "used" them. And kimber has great service, turnaround, and products.
