Try the shootist in murrieta. For a handgun around your price range, i would say a Glock. The caliber would be up to you, good luck.

im leaning towards 9mm just because its cheaper to shoot and still sufficient enough for home defense

If you can make it to Laguna Hills, O.C. Armory is fantastic.

Magnum Gun Range in Rancho Cucamonga has NIB Glocks for $519 (G17 and G19).

They also have a few on consigment that are in your range, and possibly a step up from what you can get new.

                9049 9th St, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730

I am not affiliated with them. I just picked up a Beretta from them and know how good they are to deal with.

I'd recommend going to a gun shop, finding a few that you are interested in, and then going to a range and renting those guns.

I had a Taurus chambered in 45acp for a while. I didn't think it was well constructed. The frame rails started galling after a few hundred rounds, and the fit and finish left a bit to be desired. It shot okay and was reliable. I just didn't think it would last for any length of time.

go down I-15 to where it meet 91
Annie's get your gun is a shop you should stop by
Then go east on 91. Stop by centerfire firearms in Riverside.
There is another gun shop on Iowa street called JW guns or something like that, just north of 60.
then go west on 60, stop by Bright spot pawn

you got yourself a fun trip there.

It was a PT145 that I had about two years ago. I don't remember what generation it was.

If they did improve on the 3rd generation, that's good to hear. I thought their design concepts and price points were great, they just needed that extra 10% on materials, fit and finish.
