My bro-in-law just purchased the Glock 21, although he doesn't like the beefiness of the grip. Why did he buy it then right? Well, he has his reasons- caliber, mag compatibility, etc., so moving on. However, he mentioned that he can have the backstrap shaved down into the empty cavity, reshaped and checkered. Can anyone confirm that that can be done to a G21 and where would he take it/send it for that type of customization?

Hey Loobett, Tell him to save himself a lot of trouble and sell the Model 21 and get the model 21sf. It's exactly what he wants. It's the 21 with a reduced size grip. Everything else is identical although there are some with ambi-mag release and some with a 1913 rail underneath. I have the standard mag release and Glock rail on mine. The standard 21 grips are WAY big even for those of us with large hands. The 21sf has a much better feel. Great Gun!

Yes as said, if he has not taken possession, it is a Glock location, where he could get another one, the SF would be a good one for him.My bro-in-law just purchased the Glock 21, although he doesn't like the beefiness of the grip. That grip looks very similar to my first edition 17 L. I like it, others have mentioned the other editions were better...
Interesting evolution. Robar has a hit, I would say.
When I went hunting Boar in TX, numerous years back.
Ashley Emerson had shaved a Glock down, all over took off all the sharp spots, and configed the grip for himself...
Good job, time consuming he was saying. His "Ghost ring sight" was what I liked the best.

+1 to Greg-Dawg on the Robar referral!
the 21SF may be more to his liking, but the Robar one will be a work of art!"Bruen, the Bruen opinion, I believe, discarded the intermediate scrutiny test that I also thought was not very useful; and has, instead, replaced it with a text history and tradition test." Judge Benitez 12-12-2022

He originally wanted the G21 but he said something about magazine compatibility with other glock .45 mags?Hey Loobett, Tell him to save himself a lot of trouble and sell the Model 21 and get the model 21sf. Here's what I found on a way to DIY:
- Strip frame, block all rear cavity holes with tape.
- Drill a few holes through the rear magwell wall, block holes from inside magwell with tape. These holes make anchor points for the epoxy.
- Mix a big batch of plastic friendly epoxy up and fill the rear cavity all at one time.
-After epoxy dries, remove tape, remove grip backstrap and excess epoxy with a file and sand to shape as needed, leave final surface slightly coarse.
- Coat grip area with auto bedliner.
There are probably a dozen different ways to do this.
Yes, there is a mag compatability issue between new and old 21 models.
Yes, the Robar work is awesome.Last edited by ojisan; 09-20-2009, 4:59 PM.

FYI.
There are three variants of the glock 21SF and only one of those variants are on the CA DOJ approved list.
The Glock 21SF variant on the approved list is 100% compatible with other .45ACP Glock magazines.
The other two variants of the Glock 21SF are not compatible with the older generations of Glock magazines and can only use the newest generation of Glock magazines (unless you modify the older ones, buy cutting into the magazines). This is due the ambi-magazine release used by the Glocks.
Summary...
Three variants of the Glock 21SF.
a) Glock 21SF with picatinny rail & ambi-mag release
b) Glock 21SF with glock rail & ambi-mag release
c) Glock 21SF with glock rail & standard mag release (on approved list)
The ambi-mag release Glocks will only use the newest (8th) generation of Glock magazines.
The standard mag release Glocks will use all (1st-8th) generations of Glock magazines.sigpic

I can do various grip mods. You can PM me.
Here are some pictures of recently finished Glocks.
