I dare say it: I want a striker fired 1911
. I know all you 1911 fanatics just skipped a few heart beats and believe John Moses Browning just turned in his grave, but to me, this would be an awesome gun. Personally, I love 1911's. I just don't like the platform of 1911's with the external safety and SAO hair trigger. I don't want to like it. Yes, I could train and train and train but I don't want to fire every gun like a 1911, therefore I chose to not partake in the 1911 nectar. And yes there's the POV that the original was perfection and should never be changed, but if JMB were alive today, do you think he'd still be stuck on this design? He was an innovative mind, which in most examples I speculate means "not stuck in old ways." Para Ordnance has the LDA. But it's still hammer fired and I have no idea how much that platform caught on.
So is something like this possible? I know it would change the overall dimensions at the rear of the gun, but I wouldn't think it would be drastic. The slide would probably have to be a bit longer toward the rear to hold the striker fired innards with a redesigned beavertail or lack thereof. Just think: An all steel 1911 with a highly tuned XD trigger, or a tuned Glock trigger, or a Kahr trigger, whatever your poison. All similar in function and feel. It would open the doors to Hotel 1911 to many many people, though. I know this isn't something that will realistically happen, but as the old saying goes "things do happen." Who knows, maybe a few cad designs later and a few phone calls to a machinist and a prototype may just happen?
Maybe
