    Threaded Pistol Barrel

Is it legal to have a fixed comp on a threaded pistol barrel? If so, how would one go about fixing it?

I believe it has to be pinned on, or silver soddered, basicly if its good enough for the feds to consider it to be permanantly attached for the purpouse of determining barrel length, then its good enough for the state guys to say that the its not a threaded barrel.

(there are a LOT of comp'd 1911 race guns out there that are technically assult weapons and no one seems to care)

eeek! cleaning would be a nightmare! guess you could dip stuff but... eeeh.

why not just get a ported barrel? i know it's not a comp, but at least its a marginal "inbetween".

Well I would be doing it as a "for fun" project on a used .22 conversion for my 1911. If I "F" it up, oh well. It jams all the time, but still fun to shoot. I will be cutting the slide down and threading the current barrel. If I were to cross pin it and weld or silver solder the pin would that work? I noticed my old post ban/pre no ban AR upper had a pin going straight in. Do I need to pin it this way?

If it a 1911 then run a bull barrel with no bushing, then the barrel will slip out the front of the slid like normal. That's how mine is rigged.

Or you could get an ultrasound cleaner.

Couple of my friends back home swears by their cleaners and they use it for both guns and brass.

Expensive, but a nice and easy way to clean your stuff.

For most "attached" compensators fixed to a barrel, the assembly would normally have enough play to tilt the breach end at an angle so you could get clean from that end.

Can you have a threaded barrel lying around? I don't want to start my project and have illegal parts.

Also, should I make the comp. out of steel of aluminum?

What about those bushing/comp one pieces I've seen advertised for 1911's? Are those good or evil?

You can have a threaded barrel around, OFF the gun. Remember, there is NO constructive possession of AWs here, only Machineguns (federal).

Comps are ok. It's the threaded barrel thats a problem.
