Poll: Which 9mm for range/home defense?

I'd like some opinions on which of these three 9mm's you think is best suited for range and home defense.

I've read those are all good models but I'm not a pro. Just an amateurs opinion I think it's universal though when I say you can pick the best gun you can find, but without using the best defense ammo you're reducing its effectiveness. I know it's off subject but I have Hornady TAP JHP and Winchester Supreme Elite JHP at the ready. Speer Gold Dot and Golden Saber are great as well. Unless you've done so already, you may want to run an ammo opinion thread as well to complement your choice of handgun.

They're all good choices actually; it will come down to personal preference really. If you are contemplating purchasing one for the stated purpose, I would recommend you go to a range that has all 3 (most ranges should have all of them) for rent, then try them out side by side. The one you shoot the best with would be the one you would want to get.

All 3 are completely different platforms. It comes down to what you want. Personally, I don't like DA/SA. It took me a while to get to that point, but it all started with the fantastic XD and Kahr pistols that made me fall in love with constant triggers. Have you shot either of these pistols? You may or may not like the Glock. I personally feel the best gun for any situation is one with a constant trigger, which in this case of your list would be the Glock. There are other pistols out there that operate like the Glock, but give different ergonomics.

The Beretta's a big thick gun which is totally useless because you can only have 10 round mags. You are better off with a slightly more compact 9mm that's easier to hold and is better sized for 10 round mags. Since you say it's for home defense you wouldn't want to shoot anyone with a magazine that might be considered contraband (meaning, if it's suspicious that you own it).

A single stack .45 might be a better choice, but for 9mm consider a G19 or SIG P229 with night sights and a light rail.

How could a dedicated 10 round mag in 9mm on a full size gun possibly be considered contraband.

The correct answer is whichever one shoots the best in your hands. For me that would be a Glock.

I think the reference to contraband was if they used a >10 rnd mag.

FYI - Like many have said, all will work great. Just get the one that you think feels and works best in your hands. Keep the right ammo on hand for home defence (JHP). Use the cheaper ammo for range use (FMJ).

I just went through this and picked the 92FS, only because I liked the way it felt in my hands (also liked the manual safty that some don't have). No quality issues with any of the ones you mentioned.
