The Federal Curio & Relic list shows...

Chinese Communist, types 51 and 54 (Tokarev) pistols, cal. 7.62mm.

Russian (U.S.S.R.), Tokarev, model TT, 1930, pistol, cal. 7.62, mfd. at the Tula Arsenal, Tula, U.S.S.R., from 1939 through 1956.

Russian (U.S.S.R.), Tokarev, model TT, 1933, pistol, cal. 7.62, mfd. at the Tula Arsenal, Tula, U.S.S.R., from 1933 through 1956.
so these Tokarevs have the C&R exemption from the California "safety roster". You could buy one from your local gun shop or have your Dealer order one from out of state.

I'm not familiar enough with Tokarevs to know if there are any other versions out there, made at other arsenals or during different years. If so, any Tokarev that is at least 50 years old would also qualify for the C&R exemption.

If there are any Tokarevs that are not C&R then they would still be legal to own in California and to buy via private party transfer at a Dealer, but they would be illegal to import into California for sale. They could still be imported by a new resident moving to California.

I had a norinco 213- sure, it's a bit rough looking, but for the money (paid $140-150), it's fairly accurate, reliable, and pretty darn sturdy.

The only reason I sold it is because I got a non-import type 54 Vietnam bringback (non capture papered).

If you can find a non import 54, it's slightly better made (much better fit and finish), and it doesn't have the add-on safety- no safety at all, actually.

City Arms in Pacifica has a clean Russian Tokarev TT-33 with no import marks on the shelf right now.

I have a perfect Burning Man attendance record: zero.

You do know there are more guns in the country than there are in the city.

Don't forget the CZ-52s. Cheap and same ammo as the Tokarev.
