    FFL required for slide purchase?

    Looking at a conversion slide and barrel for a Glock pistol. One vendor will ship direct, one says needs to go thru an FFL. Have bought barrels before without an FFL. Is FFL required for a slide?

    For a typical handgun slide, an FFL is NOT required.
    This is my sig line.

      No FFL required
      God, grant me the serenity
      To accept the things I cannot change;
      The courage to change the things I can;
      And the wisdom to know the difference.

        Mind sharing the vendor who requires FFL?

            The frame which has the serial number on it, would be considered a firearm and would require one to ship it to FFL.

            But, slide and barrel assembly would not need a FFL to complete the transaction. You can buy it online (i.e. Brownells and others) w/o FFL.

            Beside, on Glocks, the serial number is stamped on the frame.

            Strange...

              Figures. Unless it has a serial number on it, doesn't require a FFL.

                All Glocks have matching receiver, slide, and barrel. If the old Glock barrel and slide were part of any police armory or police surplus sale, than it might have to go thru FFL. It's just so they have a record of where that exact slide went. Plus it gives you a record on your end if you were to get pulled over or ever have your firearm examined by LE, they wont have a sh*tfit over mismatching barrels and receivers. I had to do that when I got a conversion .40 barrel for my glock.

                If you are talking about a conversion on your slide and barrel that either involves removing the serial numbers and re-etching them or doing a complete do over with new finish and such, than out of political correctness, they might ask if be done thru an FFL too.

                  Why "did you have to do that"? What federal or state law compelled you so?

                      I purchased a Glock .22 Conversion from Advantage Arms. No FFL required. They will mail to your door.

                        Why would LE have a fit over different serial numbers on the barrel or slide relative to the frame? Does this violate some law?

                        I have a Glock 23 with a new barrel I bought from TopGlock online (no FFL involved). The frame and slide have one serial number, and the barrel has another. I don't see this as a problem.

                          Sorry guy, there's no tracking on Glock slides, LE surplus or not.

                          I have un-serialed aftermarket barrels in every major caliber Glock I own and the only question cops have asked me is could I fit one to theirs.

                          I also own a LWD longslide for my 21 that is unserialed - no comments or questions on that unit either.

                          A seller that wouldn't ship a slide direct to the purchaser and insists on shipping it to an FFL either doesn't know the law, or doesn't want to make the sale.
                          The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.
