What is a good CA legal 1911 for home defense?

    Hello Everyone,

What brand or model of 1911 would you recommend for home defense? I'm leaning towards the Springfield MC Operator but I'm open to suggestions.

My MC Operator is by far my favorite firearm that I own. I would sleep with it if my wife would let me.

If you have your sights set on the Operator, GET IT!!!!

I've shot close to 20-30 different 1911s and I've had never shot a sweeter crisper 1911 than the Operator. The trigger is so butter bone-stock. You will be one happy owner. I know my next years tax refund is going str8 for an Operator!

              +1 on the Operator

I own a SA Mil-Spec and am pretty happy with it. Its fitted pretty tight for a military speced gun. Its accurate out to 50 or so yards on a man sized target.

After 450 rounds, I've never had a single jam because of the gun. I did have some stove pipes due to some chip mccormick mags that needed to be broken in. Have never had a single problem with the stock SA mags. Feeds both ball and JHP fine.

I also own a M1A. Very good, quality made rifle. I'm happy with Springfield.

You really can't go wrong with a Springfield, Kimber, or Colt. If I get another 1911, it will probably be an SA Operator. That's a nice looking gun.

Kimber Custom II TLE, great 1911, have one and love it to death, and it won't break your bank comparatively to other high end 1911's yet it is still completely tricked out. However, I may not even suggest something that high end for HD... Keep in mind if the handgun is involved in any reportable shooting you'll be losing it to your local department's evidence room and you'll likely never see it again! Maybe a glock/xd for throw away factor? Just a thought.

All of the brands listed above will work just fine. Really depends on your budget and personal preferences.

I would recommend you go to your local range and rent and shoot a few, so you can evaluate the differences for yourself.
