Model 41 selection?

I have been blessed enough to be able to purchase a Model 41 for my daughter at Christmas. My general questions would sort of fit into the selection catagory: New or used? What time frame of manufacture? Barrell length? Any bells or whistles? You see what I mean. Any help would be appreciated...

I believe all model 41 are good guns. I used to have 80's manufactured one. Now I have a later model. I like them both.

I suggest a new 5.5" pistol. I like the newer Bo-Mar style rear sight much more than the older Millet style sight, and the balance of the 5.5" version feels better to me. I also find that the shorter barrel mitigates the effects of a sloppy follow through when you're shooting one handed.

How old is your daughter?
Does she have experience with handgun?
The trigger on a model 41 is too light for most sub adult inexperienced children.

I would go with used, bigger bang for your buck and the mfg hasnt changed since its induction.

What are you going to use it for? Any sort of competition? Just plinking?

Plinking the 5" field barrel works fine.

Competition the newer models are drilled and tapped for a sight/red dot. If getting a used one get the bull barrel

I have two used and love them both, the big advantage is the quick change barrels. Get a standard model for her, bull barrel later for you.

The light trigger is fine for her if she is observing safety rules and range discipline to begin with.
