I have my mind set on a Glock 17, and I think it's a fair choice for a 9mm handgun. I went to shoot a rental at the range yesterday, and I loved it, no issues, no slide bites. I've been hearing reports of slide bits with some people, and it has started to get me worried, I know this is probably a stupid question, because I had no issues with it when I went to the range and shot it, but is this really a issue?

I got my thumb in the way of the slide on my G26 ONCE. Ouch...
The only malfunction I've ever had with a glock as my thumb slowed the slide down a little.

Never had an issue, never heard it was an issue. I'll teach any noob out there on a Glock without any reservation - as I've done before, and probably will again.sigpicNRA MemberOriginally posted by Deadbolt"We're here to take your land for your safety"

I worked part time at an indoor range for a bit. I would warn new shooters about how to avoid slide bite by showing the following.Fingers on fingers, thumb on thumb. This is one way to hold a gun. Not the way.

Then I would show how not to hold the gun. Hold it like this and you can get slide bite, like below. Some people got it some did not.

No slide bite with my glocks. Happened with a Tomcat I owned, but it was my fault as my hand was to high. The worse accident I had was when I was speed shooting a Redhawk I used to own. I did this quite often with that gun until one day when I realized I had rip the web of my hand. 5 stitches later and the hysterics of every doctor in nurse in emergency cured me of it. Word of advice to anyone who might be as dumb as me, don't mention a gun as the cause of injury while in emergency. Come up with something like "I was cutting a apple".Comment

Slide bite is not so much about the gun as it is about your hands. Older shooters or people with looser skin tend to get it more than younger people.OCSD Approved CCW Instructor

I've never had slide bite shooting a Glock but they smack the crap out of the bottom of my trigger finger."Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else." --FREDERIC BASTIAT--
