Glock 23C question

I already own .40 cal non-ported guns and recoil is not a problem for me, on the contrary I love this caliber. So back to the question: Do you like your ported 23C? Any regrets after a while of owning it? What's the difference in recoil? Does it diversify your shooting experience? Please, share your experience.

That's what I did. I bought a used, ported Glock 23 several years ago. The porting seemed more trouble than it was worth, for all the reasons mentioned by the poster. So I bought a new, unported Glock 23 barrel for about $125 and use that instead of the ported barrel. The gun works fine that way.

I've shot a 22 and a 23c, both in 40 s&w, and the recoil was better on the 23c. It isn't a fair test though because the 22 is full sized and has a longer barrel and more weight so the recoil is dampened. If it was a plain old 23 the spread would probably increase more in the 23c's favor.

The 23c was fast as hell to shoot.

Honesty if you buy a 23c and don't like the ports, you could just buy a non-ported barrel for 100 bucks.

I have a 22C and a 17. The recoil is a little more with the 22C than the 17but the muzzle rise is virtually non-existant. I have never seen the flash from the ports in daylight and only about 1 or 2 per full magazine when shooting indoors.

What is the difference in recoil and feel?

My Glock 23c with the ported barrel had less muzzle rise during recoil than the same gun with the unported barrel. I think the force of the hot gas directed straight upward from the ports provided a downward thrust that negates much of the muzzle rise.

But I don't find the same gun without ports to have objectionable muzzle rise, so the advantage with ports was very marginal to me. And the top of the gun around the front sight and ports would become dirty, requiring extra cleaning time. The white dot on the front sight would quickly become covered while shooting. I believe there was also a loss in muzzle velocity due to the gas escaping through the ports.

My understanding is that the ported barrel only helps if you are shooting hot rounds in comp. If not no difference.

I love my 23c. And thinking of porting as well. But know I don't know if I will. I wish the range I go to would have a ported gun I could try. I mean they have the .22lr conversion for the 23c so maybe They will get one soon. lol. Ohh thats another reason why I love the 23c It can be converted to a .22, .357, 9mm. And its a .40 thats 4 guns in one lol.
