Sig p226 .. is this overpriced?

I've always wanted a p226 in 9mm and was looking around in the OC and found that they're selling typically in the 800'ish range (Fowlers, Ade's, etc.) I've found online for $759 shipped + one 10rd magazine, regular contrast sights.

Is this still considered pricey? I'm not too familiar with handguns so I'm not sure if this is worth paying for a p226.

Honestly, they way things are right now with QC at SIG, I'd probably spend a little more $ to handle it and pick it out at a B&M store. The price is good. If I were looking for another 226, I'd probably try to find a CPO or another older German SIG.

Well if that price also includes the FFL fee for receiving it I say jump on it if it's NIB rail or no rail. I haven't seen Sigs in that price range in over 7 years.

Up north the cheapest I saw was around 850ish not including tax. Total rip off on Sig's part.

But I'm guessing that's before the FFL fee which is usually 70-120 so I would say get one locally and make sure it comes with 2 mags, save yourself on having one shipped in when for about the same price you can buy and inspect one in your area.

I'm with trickyvic. Discount Gun Mart here in SD has a nice, lightly used 89' W. German P226 for $599. I'd grab it if I didn't have one allready. I wouldn't buy any of the newer SIG's.

I have been seeing the P226 in .40 here brand new for $850-$950. RCGE had one for $945 I think, and The Range is grass valley had one for $845.

From what I read from sigforum, Sig quality has gone down a lot lately. It is much better to buy a used sig that is a few years old than a new one.

I've seen new .40cal w/ contrast sights for less than that in-store. No FFL transfer fee on top of it, either. That IS a good price, but when you factor in at least $50 for the transfer fee, it's not that great. And when it comes to SIGs, buying used is always a good option. I may be selling my 226 9mm w/ night sights pretty soon, actually... if you're interested...

Pre owned in 40cal $545 plus shipping. If you keep checking they get 9mm ones in too. They are just out now. http://www.summitgunbroker.com/_P226_CPO.html Mark

Thanks for the info. I'll try to look around for a CPO or at least handle one in a B&M store before deciding.

                      PM sent civilsnake.

edit: Where would I start looking for a CPO?

You can look around for a good deal. I bought a 9mm P226 CPO from Buds for $500 and a P220 from a Calgunner for $500. Good deals come around when you are patient.

$800 for a 9mm/.40 is insane. This is not a custom, its a duty gun, a nice one, but not a $800 one.

OC Armory had a NIB P226 9mm with the Sig Red Dot/ Tac Lite for $850. You'd only have to pay the $25 DROS. No transfer fees. www.ocarmory.com Great guys to deal with.
