CHP and Smith & Wesson

Anyone remember that fiasco 3 years ago when the CHP announced it was going to buy several thousand Smith & Wesson 4006, and Sig protested that they were not given a fair chance to be in the selection? What ever happened to that procurement? Did Sig ever get their guns into the CHP?
I have a feeling there's one or more CHP commissioners in Sacramento who are living large off Smith's benevolence.

Nothing came out of it. IIRC Sig was going to prtest, but it went no where and CHP is still using S&Ws

Based on my experience with the 4006, you could say the CHP missed out.

LASD authorized several models of Sigs, including various configurations of P220, P226 and P229. They are testing P250. I like them all.

Except you can't. 4006 is the only authorized carry on duty.

AFAIK...

When the CHP was looking to replace the S&W Model 4006 and they put out a RFP for a new .40S&W.
A few days after the RFP was issued, CHP chose the S&W Model 4006TSW as the new replacement sidearm and stop taking bids.
SIG raised a stink about it, saying it was rigged for S&W.
CHP responded back saying it was less expensive to stay with the S&W desgin (same magazines, holsters, training/manual of arms).
SIG responded back how the NV DPS recently replaced their S&W Model 4006 for the SIG P229DAK and how NV DPS would have spent the same amount of money to go with the S&W Model 4006TSW. Therefore, the CHP arguement about saving money was invalid.
CA budgetary concerns weighted in saying we already bought the S&W Model 4006TSW, so no crying over spilled milk, next time it'll be more fair.

I had a CHPer come into the shop and ask about Surefie X300's because their 4006's got revised and come with a rail now, and that the X300 just got approved for use. So as I understand it, they're still stuck with the crappy 4006.

Yeah they may have a mid shelf gun, but hey they got an Ar-15 next to them at all times, so its a good trade off....

Have you ever looked at those AR's? Very old surplus M-16's in semi only. Glock got the screws by the CHP years ago also.

Those 4006's would double as great boat anchors. They're stainless so rust shouldn't be an issue

M-16's and convert them to semi-auto? Now you got me curious over here...

And from my perspective...having used both S&W's and Sigs for work....I converted from Smiths to Sigs....but I still own all my smiths..and although I prefer Sigs because of the way they fit my hand, I would not hesitate to depend on either one of them....both have the same reliability and accuracy....I have about the same amount of both...Im thinking personal preference...

The 4006's are great guns..... compared to what they used to carry!

I believe it was at one time a S&W model 10 in 38 spcl only and at another time it was a Ruger Security Six in 38 spcl only.

I'd say the 4006 is a huge improvement.

Now if they were smart they would switch to CZ's !!!!!!!

Thieves stole two COLT AR-15s from the CHP last winter in the San Francisco bay area. Theft reports identified those weapons as H BAR sporters. There are no recycled US military surplus M-16 assault rifles in their cruisers.

The Pentagon donated 500 M-16s to the LAPD after the riots in 1992. These automatic weapons were issued to watch commanders in bad areas of town and not to the entire shift. The libs went nuts; because the DoD shipped the original M-7 bayonets with those rifles too.

It is illegal to convert a class 3 automatic weapon into a semi-automatic version! That's why the Ohio Ordnance BAR replicas are built from scratch with a new receiver and parts. Same goes for the new generation of MG-42s, MP-40s and the Auto-Ordnance M-27 Thompsons...
