I don't own one but my coworker does. He can't say enough good things about it. He said .38s feel like shooting a .22.
    Please, calm down.

      I have one

I've owned one for about 2 years now. Have shot various loads through it, from .38 to .357 +P. The large frame doesn't help with recoil a lot. It's much more pleasant to shoot .357 with than my 2 686's.

Also look at the none comp 627. The compensator does little in my experience. I don't bother using the comp any more.

I have always wanted to see the muzzle end of this gun without the compensator installed... can we get a pic?

I am in the market for a 627, but was leaning towards the standard model as I don't need to pay extra for a compensator that I would never use. I shoot full-house .357 Magnum handloads through my 4 inch 686+ all the time... in fact, I have never shot .38 through it. With the bigger frame and longer barrel of the 627, a compensator would be wasted money for me.

But, I would like to see if it looks cool without the compensator!

I was in the market for a 627 2 years ago and in my search for more information, I joined the S&W forum. The guys there talked me out of it and I ended up getting a used S&W model 28 Highway Patrolman for half the cost and it does not have the internal lock aka Wart..

            muzzle end without compensator

The compensator piece is a cap, held on the barrel shrout with a screw. There is a similar cap without the compensator ports cut out. So the muzzle end looks like it's got a cap with a hold for the bullet.

I can try to take a picture and post it this weekend.

Have you thought about just getting a regular PC 627?

That way you have a useful gun besides just being a range queen.
