If it is a 40 cal I have mags you can try but I would follow all the other suggestions and strip it first of all the shipping oil, clean it thoroughly and re-oil lightly.

I doubt the mags are the issue but you never know.

Most CZ's need about 500+ rounds before the trigger smooths out and it functions 100%.

this is the most hypocritical, idiotic post ever. so you're telling the guy to shoot 500-1000 rounds to break in the gun yet you yourself have never had any problems...

OK, so the spent case is not extracted out of the chamber and the fresh round gets slammed into the bottom of the spent case, right?

I would start with inspecting the chamber; there could be a burr or grit in there. If you have a dremel tool, you might want to polish the inside of the chamber. If the chamber is good, then it's possible there is a problem with the extractor/extractor spring. When you deflect the extractor, you should feel good resistance as you compress the extractor spring. The extractor spring should also return when you release it. Inspect the lip of the extractor claw to make sure it's not damaged.

It sounds like your extractor is slipping off the case rim, it could be a weak or defective extractor spring. You can replace it yourself if you have the punches and some basic mechanical skill to save on shipping the slide somewhere. If you get a new spring and want a howto walthru, holler.

I've been pondering you fellas who say putting an 18lb recoil spring (which is really high) would fix a problem like this. I guess it could depending on the physics -- if the heavy spring slows down the rate of slide recoil then the extractor has less of a chance to snap off the rim case (i.e. a slower rearward pull) which might mitigate the problem. It might "fix" the issue but isn't a correct fix of the actual problem - checking the extractor claw (good idea SCMA-1 ) or the extractor spring is really what you're after.

Guys, the guy needs to clean the Cosmoline off the pistol. Not change extractors, springs etc...

To the OP, clean the gun. It will be fine.

Out of all the NIB CZs I've taken to the range and pumped a few hundred rounds through right after picking it up and it was full of the packing goo, I've had.... 0 failures of this nature. I'm guessing that's about 8 or 9 completely different models.

Conversely the only time I've ever had this problem happen was on a slightly used (less than 200rds) model that had too weak an extractor spring from the factory. Changing out the extractor spring (and recoil spring to match, it was an extra power e.s.) it solved the problem.

                Just sayin.

BINGO!!! When acquiring a new firearm, read the manual and clean/lube it.
