.45 ACP is no where to be found

This whole ammo shortage is really getting out of hand and it doesn't seem like its getting better, well at least for .45 shooters. I see enough 9mm and .40s&w in local gun stores and Wal-Marts, but no .45. None in almost 6 months. Even online dealers are experiencing frequent shortages now.

I'm sitting on a stockpile of a few hundred rounds of crap Wolf and 100 or so defense rounds, but can't find any reasonable priced target brass ammo.

This law abiding citizen needs to start increasing his stockpile and invest into some reloading equipment me thinks.

Maybe I'm fueling the shortage by increasing demand, but Kalifornia legislators are really starting to scare me... 50 round a month handgun ammo restriction, no ammo purchases online, serial numbers... Not to mention our gun loving majority on capital hill (sarcasm).

I think I'm going to start stocking up everything decent I see... in case sh*t, you know.

    Rant out.

www.natchezss.com has some. CCI Blazer 230g FMJ is $20 for 50 rounds and is in stock. The have other stuff as well.

50 round limit is for how much handgun ammo you can sell or transfer in one month to another shooter, assuming you are an unlicensed transferor (you are not a dealer are you?). You can still buy as much ammo as you want from a dealer, but yes, Internet sales are probably dead if AB962 passes.

I think if you really want it, you can find it...just be ready to pay around 50 cents a round for it. It's not something I'm willing to do so I never buy it at that price, but I've never really not been able to find any; locally or online.

But a big +1 to getting into reloading. Even if you don't save all that much money, having ammo ready when you want it is truly priceless. No more trips to Walmart, no more browsing 10+ websites just to see if anyone has ammo for sale online...just sit in your garage and pump out as many rounds as you want. It's fantastic. Of course, primers are an issue, but order 5k or so when someone gets them in stock, and you're set for at least a couple months, if not more.

I think the shortage is only in CA. I was in Reno two weeks ago and Cabelas had atleast 60 boxes sitting on the shelf and it wasn't moving anywhere.

paying $40 + shipping for 100 rds is just ridiculous. most people don't have time to call and go down to walmart everyday at 8am to try and find a few boxes of 45acp.

$40 per 100 from someone private ftf isnt toooo bad considering WWB at walmart is around $33 after tax anyways.

but like in our own sales forums, the price will remain high as long as people buy it.

I've recently been to 4 states. Completely out of ammo at all of them.

I feel the pain. I was a big 45 ACP shooter, but now am shooting my 9mm's more, because of ammo availability.

Got a 1911 a month ago and decided to reload. For the price of 1k rounds now, I was able to buy part of my gear. I've been slowly churning ammo everytime I can and so far have about 500 rounds.

Me too. I recently got a 9mm and it's like a breath of fresh gun smoke air.

Thanks for the link to natchez. I'm going to order 1000 rounds while they have it.

The 45 ammo is so expensive, I won't shoot it unless I can reload, which I will do. But if that gets too pricey, I am done with 45ACP. I am not that in love with the round or 1911s.

Every store that sells ammo in Monterey and Santa Cruz county has .45 ACP. Lots of it. The prices are extortionate so AFAIK they aren't actually selling any but it is sitting there on the shelves. Some powder but no Varget. No primers though so getting into reloading now could prove problematic.

Winchester .45 at Big 5's are excessively expensive. At least the ones I have located in the OC, when (rarely) they have them even in stock.
