Question about ruger grips

I'm planning on making a custom pair of grips for a friend's Super Blackhawk and I've been told I need to punch out the pin at the base of the grip frame to get the grips to line up properly. I must profess my ignorance. I probably need some kind of punch, but have never used one. How easy will it be to reinstall the pin once I've got the grip material drilled?
