Detonics CombatMaster wearing AlumaGrips' new grips

AlumaGrips now offers grips for the Detonics CombatMaster, and the ones I just received are slim (I changed the grip screw bushings to slim versions), black, and are the "Tactical Checkered" variety (half-smooth and half-checkered). Note that the smooth surfaces of these grips have AlumaGrips' new subtle ribbing that helps with gripping.

Anyway, here are some snapshots to enjoy:

Those are nice! My Detonics still has the Pach's that it came with.
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

How does the Georgia gun compare to the Seattle ones? Great photos, you must have built the light box referenced in another post.

I own a pair of Georgia-made CombatMasters, and they run great.

                I don't use a light box.

Very nice little gun! What's the story behind the rear sight placement?

That's a Detonics thang. The theory is that you carry with the hammer down (with round chambered), and the scalloped rear of the slide helps with rapid thumb-cocking after the weapon is drawn. Actually, I find that the forward placement of the rear sight helps with rapid sight acquisition.

My CombatMasters came with standard grip screw bushings installed, and as usual, red loc-tite was used to secure them. Sticking a hot soldering iron into each grip screw bushing hole was enough to release the loc-tite, and changing the bushings to slim versions was a snap. I prefer slim grips on my 1911s, and with the CombatMaster even more so.

How much did you reduce the thickness with the new grips on your Combat Master. I know the thin grips on the Colt Officers model helps a bit.

Although I didn't measure the difference in thickness, it is significant. If you look on the left side, you'll notice that the slim grips are no thicker than the plunger tube.

Those sights are different! Is there a reason as to why the rear is mounted forward more?
