9mm For Wife

Hi,

My 4'10" wife has tiny hands that make it really tough to comfortably grasp most 9mm semi autos. The handles are simply too fat due to ammo double-stacking in the mags.

Some have recommended the Sig 239 since the mag is single stack and its often used by female LEOs. Anyone have experience with them?

Any other semi auto recommendations?

If she hasn't already Bullseye in San Rafael has quite a few 9mm that she could try out. I forget if they have a 239 but I'll check this week.

Good question. She already has a .38. But she wants to start PPC competitions as well as some tactical shooting classes. I know, you can do that stuff with a revolver, but we wanted to get a semi auto for that.

My favorite al time 9mm single stack is the Smith and Wesson 952. If your budget is not that rich check out the gun its based on, the M39. Old school S&W high polish blue finish a very comfortable grip and it will never be worth less than you paid for it, if you can find one. This is also the same gun the famous model 52 target masterpiece is based on.

Hey, it beats hunks of carbon for an anniversary present. Sadly about as expensive, and in California far more time consuming to find.

S&W M&P has some nice ergonomics and adjustable heel straps.

Also SW99(Walther P99) and S.I.G. Sauer P228/229.

My wife shoots her Beretta 92FS model M very well. It's a single stack 9mm. They've no longer made but available if you check the fourms. The 239 another good one. Can't go wrong with either. Good Luck!

My GF had the same problems. We eventually settled on the SIG 239 and she loves it. There are 10rnd mags available for it as well.

It was very close between the SIG and a Lady Smith, but I convinced her that the SIG would prolly be better. No complaints.

Another recommendation would be a 1911 in 9mm (Springfield and Kimber have models on the approved list). I just finished the wait for my SA 9mm 1911 right before the new year, and she had a chance to use it. Grip width fits her fine, and the recoil is very light (lightest recoil for any 9mm I've shot). Her only complaint is that the gun is very heavy, and doesn't balance for her as well as the SIG (front heavy, specifically).

You might also try a Browning Hi Power. Not single stack, but does have a smaller width in the grip than my Berretas.

Targetmaster's has some 239s in stock and on display, and at least one of them was in 9mm. Martin (aka BigMac) at Irvington Arms had one as well, not sure of the caliber.

I don't mean to rain on your parade vern, but the GF didn't like the XD9 sub compact at all. Simply too light and too short, the amount of recoil wasn't comfortable. Hell, I didn't even like the recoil. It is manageable, but I cannot imagine putting 400rnds through that in a day. For her there were better, more 'fun to shoot' choices available.
