I just picked up my new XD45, It came in original box with XD lock. Dealer told me I have to buy a lock even though he was looking at the factory lock. He said it was the LAW! Has anyone heard of this as it was my first PTP transaction.

Ummmmm, you just purchased a lock. With the pistol. FFL is trying to scam you.
I've never bought a lock when I purchased a handgun, because they always come with one (I'm sure some handguns don't but the four I've bought have had one in the box from the manufacturer).
It IS true that you had to purchase one in the last 30 days- but by purchasing the gun you DID purchase one.
Unless you really like this guy, I'd find another FFL- this one is either ignorant or is skinning you for some extra money.01001100 01100101 01100001 01110010 01101110 00100000 01110100 01101111 00100000 01110011 01110111 01101001 01101101 00100000 01001001 00100111 01101100 01101100 00100000 01110011 01100101 01100101 00100000 01111001 01101111 01110101 00100000 01100100 01101111 01110111 01101110 00100000 01101001 01101110 00100000 01100001 01110010 01101001 01111010 01101111 01101110 01100001 00100000 01100010 01100001 01111001 00101110

locks
The last few times i have done a PPT they have asked for me to sign an affidavit that states my gun safe info. For new Guns Bullseye will sell you a lock for 1 penny to conform to the law without penalizing the buyer.Comment

Lots of Lock
The members here know more about PPT laws than I do.
However I just buy the darn lock.
I figure the FFL only makes $10.00 for a lot of paper work and trouble so why not let them have a few bucks.
When I have too many locks I give them away to people who need them.
I want the local FFL to make enough to keep the doors open so I don't have to drive miles to do a PPT or shop for firearms and accessories.
Always remember to pillage before you burn.Comment

For handguns, they're 'sposed not to do that - Feds require a safety device now, too, and BATF claims not to accept the CA Safe Affidavit, even though a safe is a qualifying safety device.
See Locks, Safes, and Laws at the Wiki.
In the instant case, if the lock in the XD case was California-approved, the FFL should have noted a lock was with the gun, part of the purchase, and not made you buy another.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page

for new guns from a ffl you don't need to buy the lock as it's verified it comes w the gun. even though the lock is still new and with the brand right on it, you have to buy it showing a receipt with a date less than 30 days old when you pick it up after 10 day dros.
but you can just have your seller write you a receipt which complies. it's dumb but works since it doesn't say you need a store receipt.Comment

You can only use the safe affidavit is to do long guns, on hand guns a lock is required to accompany the gun as it leaves the store. Also because this is a ppt he was right to ask you for a new lock. If this was purchased new from Ade's then the lock in the factory box would have been all that was needed, as stated in the post above. Ade's is an honest place and he, sales person, hates the fact that a new lock is required. I just did a ppt on Monday and we both were discussing this same fact. The next time hit the local wally world and buy one for the $4.99 use the receipt and then on the way home return the lock..sigpic

I was picked up my gun this morning, the seller asked me about the lock with a purchased receipt in 30 days.I told him that i have a lock box at home and gave him GSAFF form that i had already fill out the top part. http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/gsaff.pdf . But he said it doesn't work for pistol, only for rifle and forced me to buy a cable lock at his store for 10.88$ . He said that is stupid law but we have to accept it.
Check it out this link http://www.rewci.com/topdrsesa.html This is a California-approved firearms safety device that meets the requirements of California Penal Code Section 12088 and the regulations issued thereunder.
Anyone think it's big and long enough for the rifle? Did he against the law or the form was wrong?Comment

The Feds added a law a few years ago that complicated things; although a safe DOES meet Federal law, BATF has not approved a method to document that.I was picked up my gun this morning, the seller asked me about the lock with a purchased receipt in 30 days.I told him that i have a lock box at home and gave him GSAFF form that i had already fill out the top part. http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/gsaff.pdf . Net effect: CA's safe affidavit no longer is sufficient fo rhandgun purchases. See thread.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
