SHTF Handgun

What kind of shtf senario? That would be my first question.

Anyway, I would take my 1911. .45 has plenty of 2 legged stopping power (if needed). Common round. Yes, it would be heavy to carry mass amounts of it, but this is where what kinda shtf comes in. It reloads faster than a revolver.

A handgun wouldn't be my first goto gun. But I would have my 1911 with me, if the reason caused me to hit the road.

In SHTF situation, there won't be any ammo. Anywhere. Even now, the only calibers available tend to be the more unpopular ones.

I'd probably pick my stainless Ruger GP100, it is accurate, reliable, durable and it will shoot lead bullets all day.

I can't believe I am going to answer this one, I would probably lug a .44 Magnum or .44 Special stainless revolver. I would preffer a rifle but I guess I could settle for my .44 Mag since it does make things move when you shoot at them, I just don't get that feeling of confidence with my auto loaders, plus they are just not all that accurate for hunting.

My 620 w/4" barrel. Revolvers always go bang, can use more than one caliber ammo and holds seven shots. The reason I didn't pick my 686+ is because of the full lug and added weight.

In CA since I'm limited to 10 rounds I might as well make them big ones so I'd go w a 45 ACP.

I'd go w a Sig P220. I've shot around 8000 rounds through it and I know it is reliable. I'd keep at least 5 loaded mags. Heck, if I'm gonna have a backpack on to lug ammo, I might as well make it 10 mags. From a weight perspectice likely 250 rounds max.

Outside of CA I'd consider an XD in 45 ACP due to the 13+1 capacity. It is likely reliable enough but I'd still need to put about 5000 rounds through it before I'd consider changing from a Sig 220. Yes, this might be a bit extreme but when something has been shown to work I am very reluctant to change it just because its supposedly new and improved.

I'd still feel better w a rifle. For a survival rifle, I'd want an over under combo .22 LR, 20 gauge shot gun. For a SHTF rifle I'd want an M1A as first choice but would settle for mini14, 30 30 lvr action or Rem 700 in 308.

S&W 610 - Nothing like 10mm when the SHTF.

And as a bonus, it will shoot 40 S&W as well.

A glock or sig in either 9mm or .40S&W
