I've got the Springfield GI model 1911. I bought it new almost 2 years ago. Last night at Target Masters another Springfield was calling out to me. It had nightsights, ambi safety, and some other doo-dads. I can't remember the exact model but it was something like the "Fullsize target". Ran about $725 IIRC. I almost bought it because I absolutely HATE the sights on my GI model and this one had some really nice sights. So this morning I wake up, hit up Springfields web page to check the specs on that gun and find out its nothing really fancy. It's supposedly made in America where as mine was made in Brazil. It has the same trigger pull as my GI model. And I like how my GI model doesn't have the front slide serrations. So how much should the labor cost to have nice sights put onto my slide? Would it be worth just selling mine to buy the other one or should I put the money into the old one?

Try novak 100.00 to 350.00 dollars installed plus shipping & handling depending on type of sights you want. Its hard to find local gunsmiths that are not back logged for months your best bet is probally shipping it out to novak or wilson thats just a few i really like the novak style sights

OK so it looks like it's $ 259 for the sights that I want, and that the other one had. Add on another couple hundred bucks for the "extras" that the other one had and I'm about at the same price......HMMMM.............sigpicLord, make my hand fast and accurate.

Were you looking at the Springfield "Loaded?" It's got the ambi safety, sights, extended beavertail, etc.. which isn't a bad deal for the $. Here's a pic of the parkerized version. If you found it for $725, it's a great price...Originally posted by Blue84s10OK cool I'll look into them. I'm pretty sure the gun that I saw had Novak's on it.

Yea that's the one. I can't remember the exact price but I remember when I factored in tax it came to $818. I'm really tempted to just buy that one because the sights alone would cost $260 to add to my current 1911.sigpicLord, make my hand fast and accurate.

I've seen them around anywhere from $780-800 seems the current range. If you're getting out the door (including DROS) for $818, I'd jump on it.Comment

Nah dros was $25 ontop of the $818. I still don't know what I want to do, I want a nice(er) 1911 than the one that I have but I don't want to get into a huge money pit.sigpicLord, make my hand fast and accurate.

Here's a used one with a buy it now price of $600.00
Another worn looking one with a starting bid of 525.00
And if your interested in the target sights, and stainless, you can check this out,
I don't have a problem buying used guns, and any one of these is probably a real good deal.

I bought a Springer identical to the stainless one on ar15.com; paid almost the same $$ for it. It'll be the 4th 1911 in my collection, and probably won't be the last. IMHO they're like Lay's potato chips - you can't stop at just one.Comment

Tim, where was that Kimber that you were hemming and hawing about? I recently picked one up on consinement at Turners in Reseda........50 rounds thruogh it and I bought it for $899. I just couldn;t pass it up! The guy that originally bought it said he didn't like it because it was "Too hard to clean!" WTF?Comment

Ask Nancy at Target Master for some suggestions on what to do to your 1911. She and her husband use to be gunsmiths. Nancy was very good at modifying 1911's.[SIGPIC][SIGPIC]sigpic
