Is it worth to get into this caliber? What's the Walmart price for 50rds of FMJ? Any cheap places to get practice ammo online?

It's not cheap and will cost 22-24 dollars for a box at walmart. -
There have been a few threads about this over the last few months. Long story short, get a 9mm, IMHO.WTB: Winchester /Miroki 1895 .30-06; No1. Mk. III SMLE .303 British; M96 Swedish Mauser 6.5x55mm; M39 Finnish Mosin 7.62x54r; S&W 625 .45 ACP; Glock 17.I purge the wicked. The impious madness must end. I shall be the instrument of Armageddon. It has gotten out of hand...Comment

You could pick up one of the glock .40's and get a conversion barrel if you don't want to invest in a whole gun. Than you can switch back and forth between the 2 since .40 is usually cheaper and more available.Comment

It depends what you're looking for. Several handguns chambered for the 357 SIG have conversion barrels available that let you also shoot 9mm and .40.
What would be the purpose of this new handgun?sigpicComment

If you like spending money on ammo just get a 10mm, it hits harder. If ur broke like the rest of us 9mm or .40.Originally posted by Daytripper63"Looking a bit angry, he asked why I thought it was a Republican truck. If you reload, 357 sig is great.
Almost no one reloads it, so cases are cheap ($30 or less / 1000). Pretty much only cops shoot it so your cases are almost always once fired. It takes 9mm bullets, which is about as cheap as they get. And you can hot load the hell out of it. I overload both .40 and .357 for my g35 and I'm pretty sure the top end of 357sig is noticiably above that of .40.
Now, if you have to buy your ammo, yeah: .40 cal is probably your best bet.
Ammoman is a good place to check, but they've been out of most stuff for a while.Comment

When I first saw your title, I though you were just trolling. Look here for a recent thread that went way beyond anything reasonable:
