    .357 Sig

Is it worth to get into this caliber? What's the Walmart price for 50rds of FMJ? Any cheap places to get practice ammo online?

It's not cheap and will cost 22-24 dollars for a box at walmart.

You can buy ammo from Georgia Arms online for about 33 cents/round (including shipping) if you buy their factory reloads in bulk (1000 rounds). It's not as expensive as some people think if you know where to look.

There have been a few threads about this over the last few months. Long story short, get a 9mm, IMHO.

You could pick up one of the glock .40's and get a conversion barrel if you don't want to invest in a whole gun. Than you can switch back and forth between the 2 since .40 is usually cheaper and more available.

It depends what you're looking for. Several handguns chambered for the 357 SIG have conversion barrels available that let you also shoot 9mm and .40.

What would be the purpose of this new handgun?

I wouldn't bother to get into .357 Sig. The .40 S&W will do the same thing at a lower practice ammo price, and there are more guns to choose from.

If you like spending money on ammo just get a 10mm, it hits harder. If ur broke like the rest of us 9mm or .40.

If you reload, 357 sig is great.

Almost no one reloads it, so cases are cheap ($30 or less / 1000). Pretty much only cops shoot it so your cases are almost always once fired. It takes 9mm bullets, which is about as cheap as they get. And you can hot load the hell out of it. I overload both .40 and .357 for my g35 and I'm pretty sure the top end of 357sig is noticiably above that of .40.

Now, if you have to buy your ammo, yeah: .40 cal is probably your best bet.

Ammoman is a good place to check, but they've been out of most stuff for a while.

When I first saw your title, I though you were just trolling. Look here for a recent thread that went way beyond anything reasonable:
