    LaserLyte RL-1

anyone have one if so how is it working for you?
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Haven't tried it yet, but it's on sale at Natchez right now.

If you're going to get one, might as well get a good price on it.

i looked in to this a couple of weeks ago. here is the upsides and downsides from what i've gathered:

          Ups
          - lets you use your holsters
          - light weight
          - lines up closer to your sights than a typical rail laser
          - keep your frame rail for another attachment

          Downs
          - Short battery life
          - Controls are not accessible in a natural grip position
          - Not compatible with most night sights or other regular sights
          - Slide mounted so it takes more beating than rail mounted lasers

I have not used it personally but if you can live with the downsides, it seems to be a nice laser option. Let me know if you get it. Interested to hear how it works for you.

Why not go for a lasermax which replaces the guide rod? I have one on my HD Glock 21 and I love it. Doesn't add bulk or change the weapon profile. Lasers weren't a part of my training but it's nice to know it's there if I need it.

One argument against a guide rod laser is that you're replacing a critical part of your gun with a different design from a mid-range manufacturer. If the Laserlyte guide rod fails mechanically, your gun is broken.

I don't know the history of guide rod lasers and have never used one. This worry may be completely unfounded, and may never have happened before, but it's a what-could-go-wrong concern.

I don't have one, but I remain intrigued. There was a thread about them here a week or so ago and my response is the same; I am impressed with the idea and the innovation. I would have NEVER thought of something like this. Seeing this being built and available makes me believe that we aren't too far away from a front sight post projecting a laser beam without changing the profile or function of the gun one iota.

In principle I'd agree with you but Lasermax is the only NATO approved handgun laser sight for NATO forces so it's safe to say they're not a fly-by night company. To quote some of their literature: "LaserMax internal guide rods meet or exceed both Mil-Spec and Homeland Security durability test standards (drop tests, blowing sand, temperature and humidity extremes, salt water fog, deep water immersion, 20,000+ rounds live fire)."
I'm pretty sure the tests were done internally but I'm not sure I'd consider them a "mid-range" manufacturer.

If the guide rod laser "fails" it's still functional as a guide rod ... so I'm not sure what you mean. In the case of my Glock it's only replacing a piece of plastic.

But, if your gut says otherwise, go with your gut ... it's only my opinion.

Got it replaced and gave it a workout. So far no problems it has held up to recoil but I can only recommend it for a strictly nightstand piece. For carry its snag city. I am going to get a Laser Max for my new 19 despite the price.
