    Going big bore

I am thinking of moving up to the .454 in a Ruger super Blackhawk. i like the look and feel of this gun plus the price is not extreem, ($650 vs. 1k for a similar S&W). I really like the idea of 2 calibers in one, so ill use it more. Any one have experience with this gun, or can recomend similar items?

    Sure that's a BlackHawk?

I thought they only offered the .454 in their Super Redhawk. Super Redhawks are probably the strongest revolvers out there.
Freedom Arms revolvers are so tightly fitted that shooting .45 Colt is not a good idea. They fear the ring from the shorter round building up and drastically altering pressure levels in their firearms. Maybe it's just their way of selling you an extra cylinder.
What do you want to do with the .454? A standard or even hot loaded .45 colt in a ruger BlackHawk series revolver will accmomplish most of what a .454 will do for you. AND with a lot less hassle, recoil and fuss.

It's their way of selling you an extra cylinder. If the carbon build up got to be too much from firing the colt 45 then the 454 wouldn't chamber until you cleaned it.
I have been thinking of getting a Freedom Arms, so I might be willing to sell you my Ruger 454, it has got three sets of grips(pachmyr,Hogue and factory) and the barrel is ported, also has polished chambers and an action job from Ruger. I have a two powered luepold scope and two holsters that I used with it to take hogs.
Pm or email me if your interested. The 454 is fun to shoot you can load everything from 250 gr bullets up to 405 grs. very versatile.

        Super Redhawks

Much better grips with the super redhawks also. Have only shot them in 44Mag but what a difference between a SRH and my Mod 29's.

I bought one on a whim from Mud on this forum a couple of months ago. He gave me a great price and included a couple thousand bullets, several hundred cases (mixed .45lc and .454, mostly unfired), and reloading dies. I've only taken it out to the range once, but it's a blast (quite literally). Wearing a wrist brace and a shooting glove, the 'mild' .454's that I made were still pretty strong (but not uncontrollable...which is good because I have about 20,000 c.u.p. to go before I get close to max). The .45lc loads are downright mild in this gun. I highly recommend it for the amazing versatility.

How about going with a slightly cheaper big-bore, in the Ruger Blackhawk convertible, with .45 LC and .45 ACP cylinders?
If you were going to shoot mostly Longs anyway, would you shoot even more if your second caliber was .45 ACP?
