    Hello to All

New here. Just found the forum today. A little about myself:

Relocated to CA about 3.5yrs ago (wife is from here). I am still in serious CULTURE SHOCK regarding the draconian state gun laws

I do have a question though, if you'd allow:

I would like to obtain a TC Encore frame from a gunsmith in Utah. He's got great prices on new pistol frames and I am in the market. His website says he will not ship to CA. I did a little "light reading" of the CA penal code and the BATF website today and could not find anything that would not allow for this purchase, provided I received the frame through a transfer FFL holder and followed the normal sequence (yellow sheet, 10 days , etc).

Did I miss something? Is there a law on the books that I have missed?

thanks in advance for any help!

Go to the Cal DOJ website

It maintains an updated list of handguns that are certified for sale in the state. If a gun is unsafe(cough, cough) or the maker can't or won't swallow the cost for testing and being certified as 'safe' then you won't be allowed to buy it. My daughter's Hunter Safety course instructor mentioned somelthing about TC not wanting to play california politics, you could be right. It that is the case, your best bet is to try to find a used one. I'm assuming you could still buy barrels from out of state.

Just changed that for the TC's?

I was informed by gun shop today that they just starting selling them again in Nov (just before the election) as some sort of compromise was made for single shot pistols and consequently they are starting to sell them again for the first time since 2000....what I was told. And after he told me the price, that's when I started looking for components to build. The gun shops around here (that I've been to) seem like they want to make a months wages on each gun!

BTW- I did read the DOJ site today...couldn't find anything that wouldn't allow for the transfer...

      Anybody know for sure?

Hey local experts, I thought single shot pistols were exempt from the drop test and listing laws?

Single shot pistols are exempt from the drop tests and safe handgun list.

Even tho the TC is now allowed, I don't believe you can buy frame only. The ruling that allowed TC's back into CA also states a minimum length for the complete weapon and that precludes buying just the frame. At least, that's what I read and I've been told. I've wanted to do the same thing and then buy barrels off gunbroker or whereever, but always been stopped from buying just the frame.
